Foreign Policy Wonk or Donk?

Much has been made of McCain's experience, his understanding of history and foreign policy, and--conversely--of Barack Obama's inexperience. Except, of course, McCain keeps making egregious errors on foreign policy, the latest two this week: he mentioned the border between Iraq and Afghanistan (also known as, as Jon Stewart cuttingly remarked, "Iran") and then he compounded that error with another one about the history of "the surge" in Iraq. (And by the way, the insufferable Katie Couric censored the blunder.)

You can put these errors down to campaign fatigue, to old age, or to plain old ignorance. Whichever you prefer, beware of those out there who will tell you, without a hint of shame, that Obama is the wrong man because he lacks experience. As Obama said, if you want Washington experience, you deserve four more years of Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, and you would do well to vote for John McCon. Seemingly, though, most people have had enough of that kind of experience.
